Today's Action: New 1000 Page Health Care Bill Being FAST-TRACKED Through Congress

Quote of the Day: "If every member pledged to not vote for it (the health care bill) if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes." -- Senator Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader

Subject: URGENT correction

Yesterday we told you it appeared unlikely Congress would pass a health care bill before the August recess. Things have changed in the last 24 hours. Congressional leaders are once again pressing to rush the bill through.

This is very dangerous. We must resist this with everything we've got. Not only will it be bad for the government to expand its involvement in health care, RUSHING to do so will be even worse.

If they pass a bill containing nearly 1,000 pages you can be sure that almost no one voting for it will really understand it.

Please hit Congress again. Use DownsizeDC.org's health care campaign to send your message.

This time use your personal comments to tell your Congressional employees that you object to rushing through such an important and complicated bill. Tell them you expect them to read and understand every single word of the bill BEFORE they vote.

It doesn't matter if you've sent recent messages on this issue. Send another one. Say something different this time.

We must keep opposing these proposals until they're defeated, or we'll regret it for the rest of our SHORTENED lives.

Thank you.

Jim Babka
President

p.s. here is a list of other

p.s. here is a list of other countries with Universal Health Care:

Canada
Australia
New Zealand
England
Northern Ireland
Scotland
Wales
Austria
Finland
Germany
Ireland
Netherlands
Brazil
Colombia
Mexico
Peru
Trinidad and Tobago
Bhutan
People's Republic of China
Hong Kong SAR
India
Israel
Singapore
Taiwan (Republic of China)
Thailand

That makes the US the only modern country without Universal Health Care. Health care costs for us have risen over 1500% since 1979 compared to the average household income increase of 200% (both are adjusted for inflation, and keep in mind the increase in 2-income families since 1979, still only a 200% increase). And everyone complains about the cost of housing going up. Guess what, it went up 1000%, 500% less than health insurance.

I mean really, if you want to continue to pay multi-billion dollar companies who actually make money when you don't use your health insurance and who restrict your benefits based on their bottom line, you can still do it.

Hello all, I'm happy to

I JUST RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS PROPOSAL AND I ALMOST COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE CONGRESS IS PROPOSING.
IT IS NOT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS CONGRESS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF OBAMA HAS PUT THIS TOGETHER. I JUST READ THROUGH ABOUT 500 PAGES OF THIS GARBAGE AND I FIND IT VERY SICKENING TO SEE THE ROLE OF ACORN AND OTHER AREA'S OF RIPPING THIS COUNTRY APART.. I STOPPED READING AFTER 500 PAGES AND REALLY GOT UPSET WITH OBAMA'S INSANITY.
CHECK IT OUR FOR YOURSELF.
HERE ARE JUST THREE FOR YOU TO LOOK AT --

PAGE 30: A GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE WILL DECIDE WHAT TREATMENT AND BENEFITS YOU GET(AND UNLIKE AN INSURER,THERE WILL BE NO APPEALS PROCESS).

PAGE 42: THE "HEALTH CHOICES COMMISSIONER" WILL DECIDE HEALTH BENEFITS FOR YOU. YOU WILL HAVE NO CHOICE. NONE.

PAGE 50: ALL NON-US CITIZENS, ILLEGAL OR NOT, WILL BE PROVIDED WITH FREE HEALTH CARE SERVICES.

PAGE: 65 TAXPAYERS WILL SUBSIDIZE ALL UNION RETIREE AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZER HEALTH PLANS (READ :SEIU, UAW,AND ACORN).

THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF SO MANY --- WELCOME TO THE STATE OF LOSING YOUR RIGHTS AND THE BEGINNING OF LOSING YOUR FREEDOM.... START READING ABOUT MARXISM AND HOW TO LIVE UNDER THE BLANKET OF OPPRESSION....

IF THIS PASSES - GOD HELP THIS COUNTRY - AFTER SERVING IN THE MILITARY AND BEING AS GOOD A CITIZEN AS I COULD BE, TO BELIEVE THIS COUNTRY WOULD ELECT A PERSON OF THIS CALIBER IS WAY BEYOND ME. THE SENIORS ARE REALLY GOING TO TAKE A HIT. GOOD WAY TO GET RID OF US.. THINK ABOUT THAT !!!!

Page 30 says: "SEC. 123.

Page 30 says:
"SEC. 123. HEALTH BENEFITS ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
(a) ESTABLISHMENT.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—There is established a private-public advisory committee which shall be a panel of medical and other experts to be known as the Health Benefits Advisory Committee to recommend covered benefits and essential, enhanced, and premium plans.
(2) CHAIR.—The Surgeon General shall be a member and the chair of the Health Benefits Advisory Committee.
(3) MEMBERSHIP.—The Health Benefits Advisory Committee shall be composed of the following members, in addition to the Surgeon General:
(A) 9 members who are not Federal employees or officers and who are appointed by the President.
(B) 9 members who are not Federal employees or officers and who are appointed by the Comptroller General of the United States in a manner similar to the manner in which the Comptroller General appoints members to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission under section 1805(c) of the Social Security Act.
(C) Such even number of members (not to exceed 8) who are Federal employees and officers, as the President may appoint. Such initial appointments shall be made not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.
(4) TERMS.—Each member of the Health Benefits Advisory Committee shall serve a 3-year term on the Committee, except that the terms of the initial members shall be adjusted in order to provide for a staggered term of appointment for all such members.
(5) PARTICIPATION.—The membership of the Health Benefits Advisory Committee shall at least reflect providers, consumer representatives, employers, labor, health insurance issuers, experts in health care financing and delivery, experts in racial and ethnic disparities, experts in care for those with disabilities, representatives of relevant governmental agencies. and at least one practicing physician or other health professional and an expert on children’s health and shall represent a balance among various sectors of the health care system so that no single sector unduly influences the recommendations of such Committee.

Page 42:
"QUALIFIED PLAN STANDARDS.—The establishment of qualified health benefits plan standards under this title."
News Flash: this already exists. Ask anyone who works in insurance. There is government oversight already. I'm not sure where you get the "no choice" bit:
Page 148 gives you a choice:
"In no case may an employer automatically enroll an employee in a plan under paragraph (1) if such employee makes an affirmative election to opt out of such plan or to elect coverage under an employment-based health benefits plan offered by such employer. An employer shall provide an employee with a 30-day period to make such an affirmative election before the employer may automatically enroll the employee in such a plan."

You can decide to use your employer's health plan or not.

Page 50 does NOT say illegal immigrants will be covered, it says there will be no discrimination for those covered:
"SEC. 152. PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTH CARE.
(a) IN GENERAL.—Except as otherwise explicitly permitted by this Act and by subsequent regulations consistent with this Act, all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services."

DISCRIMINATION IS PROHIBITED BASED ON PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS, NOT CITIZENSHIP. That is covered below:

To clarify, page 143 specifically states"
"Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

Page 65:
"Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall establish a temporary reinsurance program (in this section referred to as the ‘‘reinsurance program’’) to provide reimbursement to assist participating employment-based plans with the cost of providing health benefits to retirees and to eligible spouses, surviving spouses and dependents of such retirees."

Pag 341 say:
"AUTHORITY TO DISQUALIFY CERTAIN PLANS.—In applying clauses (ii) and (iii), the Secretary may determine not to identify a Medicare Advantage plan if the Secretary has identified deficiencies in the plan’s compliance with rules for such plans under this part."

They can disqualify plans IF they find it deficient. Do you really want a deficient plan? This already exists by the way.

So please, continue to paraphrase and come up with whatever translation you think will scare people. Others will just post what it ACTUALLY SAYS.
So far every thing you listed is either a complete fabrication, or misunderstanding that leads me to doubt your performance on reading comprehension tests from elementary school.

Where did you get the 1000

Where did you get the 1000 page proposal? How can I download it/

"Maybe you can see me in the

"Maybe you can see me in the emergency room where i work 16 hours a day, because there are so many in need and no insurance. 8 to 10 hour waits. Is this you or your children in the future."

Yeah, sure. If this is true, how are you going to cope with 50 million new people that suddenly have insurance and start to show up for treatment??

Has anyone come to the part

Has anyone come to the part where the government shall have access to your bank account, yet? It's there, read it an weep. This bill is madness and will create chaos!!!! Are they CRAZY and are we NUTS for letting them even consider passing this?

I expect each member of

I expect each member of Congress that votes for this bill (if it passes), to be required to cancel their own health care policy and take this new one. I want them to experience the same results as the rest of us. If the members of Congress are supposed to be working for us, then I'm going to do my best to fire them during the next election. They should not expect that the citizenry will allow them to cram such outlandlish bills down our throats without consequences. Where has my country gone?

Dummy, The point is: This IS

Dummy,
The point is: This IS the plan members of Congress have!
Why don't you all read the actual bill instead of living and dying by what Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh tell you to believe:

http://bit.ly/DTuvs

I agree, 1000+ pages is alot, about the same as a Jackie Collins or Stephen King book, or a few months worth of sports scores. But, if you're too lazy to read it and decide for yourself what it says, then shut the hell up.

AMEN !

AMEN !

Sorry, let me clarify. I

Sorry, let me clarify. I agree with Dan, ALL members of congress, including the president, should have to be a part of this plan if they voted for it!

It didn't take long to run

It didn't take long to run into an "uh-oh" moment when reading the House's "health care for all Americans" bill. Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal:

VIA http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=332548165656854

"When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.

It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of "Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage," the "Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states:

"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law.

So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.

From the beginning, opponents of the public option plan have warned that if the government gets into the business of offering subsidized health insurance coverage, the private insurance market will wither. Drawn by a public option that will be 30% to 40% cheaper than their current premiums because taxpayers will be funding it, employers will gladly scrap their private plans and go with Washington's coverage.

The nonpartisan Lewin Group estimated in April that 120 million or more Americans could lose their group coverage at work and end up in such a program. That would leave private carriers with 50 million or fewer customers. This could cause the market to, as Lewin Vice President John Sheils put it, "fizzle out altogether."

What wasn't known until now is that the bill itself will kill the market for private individual coverage by not letting any new policies be written after the public option becomes law.

The legislation is also likely to finish off health savings accounts, a goal that Democrats have had for years. They want to crush that alternative because nothing gives individuals more control over their medical care, and the government less, than HSAs.

With HSAs out of the way, a key obstacle to the left's expansion of the welfare state will be removed.

The public option won't be an option for many, but rather a mandate for buying government care. A free people should be outraged at this advance of soft tyranny.

Washington does not have the constitutional or moral authority to outlaw private markets in which parties voluntarily participate. It shouldn't be killing business opportunities, or limiting choices, or legislating major changes in Americans' lives.

It took just 16 pages of reading to find this naked attempt by the political powers to increase their reach. It's scary to think how many more breaches of liberty we'll come across in the final 1,002."

There is a lot of health care

There is a lot of health care info on the 'net - the different approaches lead to a range of results. However, the overall picture not precise, but plenty clear enough to reach some conclusions. I'll not list links to a long list of web sites; rather I'll encourage people to do their own checking as I believe that they are more prepared to believe results they have a time and effort investment in.

Basic findings include, and I can say this because of the ranges:
1 - the quality of health care seldom breaks into the top 30 internationally; individual specialties seldom break into the top 25; the impact of the failure to have universal coverage weighs on the rankings, but is difficult to isolate, even as a range, from the data found (thats good news IF we don't blow it) - the spread on these figures is not as wide as other categories
2 - the per capity (note that per capita means entire populations, not just the portions with health care access) cost of health care in the US is typically reported at 2 times the next most costly country and the best I can find is 1.6 times the next most expensive country - if based on only those with access to health care, it would be worse because of the large number in the US with no health care
3 - the percentage of people in the US without health care is more tightly clustered than other measures at about 16% (approximately 1 in 6)
4 - the cost of the innefficiencies of a multipayer system in the US range from 15% to 27% of the total cost - this is a BIGGIE anywhere in that range
5 - Norway, Denmark and Sweden are the most prevelent countries at the top of the various international rankings - Norway seems to a slight favorite, and it should be noted that their system is socialized (like any other "ism," socialism can be well run, poorly run, or anywhere in between - it can't be properly calimed to be universally the best or the worst)

By way of example, and anyone can use a different assumption as long as the justification exists in the real world, lets pick 20% as the cost of inefficiency due to a multipayer system This means that the move to a single payer (which does NOT have to be socialized heal care) system would provide the same level of care for 80% of the current cost. Pro rating the unit cost to include the 1 in 6 presently without coverage, results in a projected cost of 96% of the current cost to provide the same overall quality of health care to all Americans. That's a 4% total cost saving and a boost in standing in international ranking, just for going single payer. The point is single payer is a no brainer (perhaps an explanation for why congress wants to add an estimated $544 billion (or whatever the latest is) in taxes over the next 10 years to pay for their 1000 plus page "plan." A tax increase is NOT a good thing with respect to healing the current economic problems, but the economic fiasco is another topic by itself.

Note that nothing has been said about how much doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, etc. earn. The only significant party who would see a change under the basic premise here is insurance. They would have to deliver (together with the government) on passing the estimated savings on the the end use customers, but they could get a 20% increase in customers. Unfortunately, I have to point out that this assumes NO HANKIE PANKIE, and that's the riskiest of the assumptions.

This is a potential in JUST THE PAYMENT SYSTEM. There are potential and reasonable savings available in the actual health care system. Comments on that perhaps on another day.

I can promise more people

I can promise more people will die under the Kenyan's plan than at present. With the present "government" in charge of our healthcare it will be as eveything else they are in charge of, an unmitigated disaster. The baby boomers getting older will have a "duty" to die. Treatment will be withheld from the elderly because "they are going to die soon anyway", etc. Wait and watch. You'd better hope this evil bunch in power now NEVER has this power over any of your loved ones.

What's that smell? Do you smell it? I think I smell a revolution...

Since we have nothing but

Since we have nothing but bought off criminal corporate whores in Washington D.C. (including the Obamanation), I see no one benefitting from from the Health Care Bill but the same suspects, the Drug Companies and Insurance Companies and the Congresmen and Senators who received money from them.

To lugnut: Who the heck do

To lugnut: Who the heck do you think is going to pay for Obama's plan? YOU AND ME and the rest of the middle class, the same dolts who are getting reemed royally without Vaseline right now.

You had better be glad its

You had better be glad its being fast tracked through congress. Do you think we have a lot of time? Its not nearly fast enough for me and the people i see suffering everyday in my job as a emergency room nurse. People are so blind, until they lose their insurance (and i have seen this many times) either because they have no insurance, they have been priced out or their insurance companies drop them because of the type illnesses they have. This is the problems most of you who are against Obama's plan will experience. They are going to price us out, they will drop you, they want pay for many percedures and they will take the money and run.

I hope you have a public option or single payer when this happens to you. Stop being the insurance company's suckers. They don't care anything about you. I know this also, because before i becames a nurse, i worked in administration. Where i and my fellow employees spent over half of our day trying to get the insurance companies to pay. Some people die waiting.

People here talk about how

People here talk about how bad President Obama's healthcare bill would be and what kind of system. I ask, what kind do we have now, where close to 50 million have no insurance, many more underinsured, rate and premiums continuosly going up and 20,000/year dying? How expensive is that? Did you know right now, Blue Cross Blue Shield is trying to get a 32% increase in their rates? Others are presently doing the same. I ask all the people bashing Obama's plan, how will you pay for your care if these rates keep going up? Maybe you can see me in the emergency room where i work 16 hours a day, because there are so many in need and no insurance. 8 to 10 hour waits. Is this you or your children in the future.

Well to answer your question,

Well to answer your question, I would rather pay the increase in my healthcare premiums, mine just went up 66%. I currently own a small business, work a full time job in the healthcare sector, have a part-time job in a health club, and in my spare time put myself through college at 50 years old while paying for my son's university fees for 5 years! I pay all my bills!

I feel that we all need to pull our own weight. We all need to pitch in and help other family members. I also believe in charity and give $$ and time, but let me decide where I want my hard earned my to go...

Any american or non-american that is currently not working in this country and is accepting a welfare check or unemployment check should be assigned a job by the government to earn their pay. There is so much waste in government spending and Obama, if he ever stops partying...Imagine going to the theatre in NYC and we paid for the outrageous expense! I don't have time to play....

Please...

WHAT YOU THINK YOU WILL GET

WHAT YOU THINK YOU WILL GET WITH THIS PROPOSED HEALTH CARE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. AND YOU WILL LOSE YOUR BUSINESS. WHY WORK IF YOU CANNOT MAKE ANY PROFIT?? ACORN AND THE UAW WILL REALLY BE APPRECIATIVE OF YOUR EFFORTS.

WITH THIS PLAN YOU MAY NOT LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE ANY KIND OF A LIFE AT ALL. I PLAN TO PITCH IN AND DO MY SHARE - I PAY ALL OF MY BILLS AS WELL. I LOOK AT MY BILLS NOW AND I AM VERY HAPPY TO HAVE THEM. IF OBAMA KEEPS GOING IN THE DIRECTION HE IS, I WILL NOT HAVE ANY MONEY TO MAKE A BILL.

I PROBABLY WILL BE GOING SOMEWHERE (ANOTHER COUNTRY) TO GET HEALTH CARE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME. WAKE UP - HIS WAY IS NOT THE RIGHT WAY.

ASK YOUR CONGRESSMAN IF HE HAS READ THIS MESS - I JUST WENT THROUGH ABOUT 500 PAGES AND WANTED TO THROW UP..
BYE - BYE TO FREEDOM !!!!!

I expect my representative to

I expect my representative to represent the best interest of the People, not corporations. I expect my representative to READ bills before he/she votes on them. I expect the bills to be subject specific. If any of those bills are NOT in the best interest of the majority of the People, I expect my representative to vote NO. If my representative cannot perform as described above, he/she does not deserve to hold that position and should, at the least, be thrown out of office, or in the extreme, be executed for treason.

Considering the actions of our so-called "representatives" since 1913 and particularly in the last 30 years, execution would be preferable.

So far, Im seeing what I

So far, Im seeing what I anticipated happening in regards to liberal DEFENSE of this bill. Never talk about what it SAYS, just play semantics on anybody's dialogue against the bill.

Furthermore, anyone of notoriety who DOES buy into it, will be mass blasted through every social engine orifice as if its any indication of what the rest of the nation also believes.

And my NEXT prediction will be the HOLLYWOOD infusion. Celebrities will command attention of the media news cycle by showing their support for this ridiculous bill.
"OMG, Lindsey Lohan likes the new public option? like, oh my god, totally, im like, totally for the , like public plan, like, ya know?... Wow... thats hott"

seeing as how these celebs WILL fall under the new plan, if they ever leave or lose their existing insurance. I like Andrew Wilkow's idea to shut them (Hollywood) up by telling them the will no longer have legal access all of THEIR specialized health care facilities and plastic surgeons. As they certainly should NOT be covered by the Public Option plan, which of course, they will soon have.
